The project includes:
- Construction of two tunnel tubes with supporting infrastructure and structures using the TBM method.
- Construction of an access structure on the Sava River slope to integrate the access roads and connect them with the roads inside the tunnel tubes. This access structure also includes the construction of a shaft for TBM extraction.
- Construction of an access structure on the Danube River slope to integrate the access roads and connect them with the tunnel tube roads. This structure also includes the construction of a shaft for TBM launching.
- Integration of the newly designed structures into the spatial layout of the Sava and Danube slopes.
The project aims to achieve the following objectives:
- Reduce traffic flows in the central urban area along the route: Novi Beograd – Savski Amfiteatar – Ada Huja.
- Decrease the current concentration of traffic in the central city zone, thereby reducing levels of pollutants and urban noise, improving the quality of life for residents in the area.
- Complete the spatial-functional transformation of the Sava and Danube amphitheaters by connecting the two slopes with a traffic link.
The road layout consists of two carriageways (one in each direction), each comprising two lanes 3.5 m (right) and 3.25 m (left) wide, edge strips 0.35 m wide, and service (inspection) lanes 0.9 m wide. The total road length is 2,624.81 m.
The circular cross-section tunnel structure extends from chainage 0+193.00 to 2+126.24 m, with a length of 2,126.04 m for the left tunnel tube, and from 0+193.00 to 2+118.49 m, with a length of 2,118.68 m for the right tunnel tube. The free height above the roadway in the tunnel is 4.75 m.
The TBM entry and exit shafts have the following characteristics:
Sava slope (exit shaft):
The structure of the advance section with the exit shaft consists of 186 piles, 8–40 m in length. A grade-separated intersection is planned in the Gavrila Principa Street section. The exit shaft has a circular shape with a diameter of approximately 35 m.
Danube slope (entry shaft):
The structure of the advance section with the entry shaft consists of 457 piles, 6–30 m in length. The shaft has a circular shape with a diameter of approximately 35 m.
As part of preparatory works, a concrete gallery approximately 450 m long will be constructed to house all installations that conflict with the construction of the tunnel entry portal. The gallery is located on Bulevar despota Stefana Street.
